Identity

Cafe Momentum

Cafe Momentum is a nonprofit organization created in 2010 by founder and executive chef, Chad Houser, as a pop-up restaurant concept. The rotating dining concept was established to provide culinary training to at-risk youth recently released from juvenile detention in order to help them foster life and job skills.

The identity was designed to appeal to potential sponsors and patrons while communicating the overall mission to youth groups, juvenile justice centers, and case managers. The brand was to be featured on grassroots marketing materials, website, and ultimately training and chef uniforms.

The concept’s reach and popularity grew, and with ticket sales and donations the organization was able to open its own doors in 2015. To better equip the organization, complete guidelines with brand typography and color palettes were provided. The brand features hand drawn, scribbled type to communicate the volatility of adolescence while conveying the playfulness of youth.
